Three leather cleaning methods

2021-07-13

There are three ways to clean leather: one is dry cleaning, including tetrachloroethylene dry cleaning and petroleum dry cleaning; the other is manual scrubbing, including solvent scrubbing and scrubbing with water and detergents. Solvent scrubbing is essentially manual dry cleaning; the third is manual scrubbing (water and washing supplies).

1. Dry cleaning

Leather garments are suitable for dry cleaning, that is, chemical organic solvent cleaning. There are three advantages of dry cleaning of leather garments. First, adding a fatliquor during the dry cleaning process can prevent detanning and hardening of the leather board. Whether it is dry-cleaned, washed, or worn, especially in the rain, leather garments will have a de-tanning phenomenon, that is, degreasing. The result is that the leather board becomes hard and cracked. Therefore, no matter what kind of cleaning method, it must be greased, but machine washing cannot be greased, the fatliquor will be discharged with the detergent aqueous solution; manual fatliquoring is difficult to miss and uniform; only dry cleaning adds fatliquor, Will be comprehensive and even. Second, dry cleaning has the effect of disinfection and sterilization, killing parasites and eggs, and preventing insects. Third, dry cleaning is not easy to deform and shrink. Although some leather garments are called "washed leather", washing will also detan.

(1) Dry-cleaning temperature: The suitable temperature for dry cleaning of leather is 17-20 degrees Celsius, and some are lower than this temperature, such as 10 degrees Celsius for washing leather, and the highest temperature does not exceed 30 degrees Celsius.

(2) Drying temperature: The drying temperature can be 15-20 degrees Celsius higher than the washing temperature, and the highest temperature should not exceed 55 degrees Celsius.

2. Manual scrub

Some leather garments cannot be machine washed and can only be scrubbed by hand. Hand-washing and scrubbing is to use perchloroethylene or other chemical solvents, and the other is to use water and detergent, which should be determined according to the coloring materials and dirt conditions of the leather clothing. Take pearlescent leather and printed leather as examples. Only water and detergent can be used for scrubbing. If chemical solvents are used, the pearlescent and printed color patterns will be severely damaged due to the dissolution of the adhesive, and there is no remedy. The accident occurs.

For scrubbing, you need to prepare a dry towel, wipe and dry at the same time, to avoid water soaking the leather board, which is to prevent the leather board from detanning and degreasing to the greatest extent and avoid the occurrence of hard leather board.

There are special detergents for cleaning leather clothes. If they are short of time, they can be prepared by themselves. The ratio is ammonia: alcohol: water 1:10:5.

3. Manual scrubbing

Manual scrubbing uses water and detergent, which is a way of washing. This is a washing method for some special leather garments, including the cleaning of some leather garment linings. The difference with textile fiber clothing is that the water should not be too much. Try not to make the leather board soaked. Combine brushing and scrubbing. After brushing, use a dry towel to dry the floating water. After manual brushing, manual fatliquoring is generally required.
